Last Week's Quote: G.K. Chesterton on Charity

"It is true that there is a thing crudely called charity, which means charity to the deserving poor, but charity to the deserving is not charity at all, but justice."

~G.K. Chesterton, in Heretics

As regards 'charity' it was Orwell (nee Blair) who pointed out that any lottery is another tax on the poor, just take a look the next time at the poor sods who do it next time you pop in for your quarter cola cubes.

It is also true that the only charities worth donating to are those who do not ask/glossy pamphlets etc. invariably they are the same kosher charities which are provided with funding via such b*****cks as 'Children in Need' 'comic relief' etc.

If one gives, one ouught to give without any fanfare.
