As regards 'charity' it was Orwell (nee Blair) who pointed out that any lottery is another tax on the poor, just take a look the next time at the poor sods who do it next time you pop in for your quarter cola cubes.
It is also true that the only charities worth donating to are those who do not ask/glossy pamphlets etc. invariably they are the same kosher charities which are provided with funding via such b*****cks as 'Children in Need' 'comic relief' etc.
If one gives, one ouught to give without any fanfare.
